Contribute to The HammerSlogger

Today, I got this message left as a comment here:

I have a grandson who is now somewhere in Iraq with the 3id, 1-15inf, baker co. and I to appreciate this site. He is also out of Fort Benning. Since we have no contact with him right now I live on this site trying to find out what is going on.  Is there anyway parents and grandparents can communicate with each other?  That would also be a help.
Thank you for the work you are doing.

Joanne

I have gotten a lot of e-mails like this from a lot of you folks out there who read the HammerSlogger on a regular basis.

First of all, rest assured, I keep this site as updated as possible.  Whenever I get new information from my contacts in the field, I bring that information to you folks here.

In her comment, Joanne asked about ways parents and grandparents can communicate with each other.

Well, I’d like to invite all of you to be “contributors” to HammerSlogger.  Whenever you hear from your soldier, have an experience you think other families would be interested in hearing about, or have thoughts you’d like to share, take a few moment to type them out, and e-mail them to me.  There’s a link to my e-mail address on the right.  Make sure to tell me that it would be alright for me to share your thoughts, and I’ll post them here for all to read.

In the meantime, I’m working on ways to better facilitate communication between those of you who read this blog.

Thanks for stopping by!

UPDATE…

Another commenter referred me to a website where folks can interact with each other.  Here’s the address:  http://support3rdid.com/

There is an amazing support site called “support3rdid.com” that has a wonderful message board comprised of friends and family memebers of the 3rd ID (both in Ft Stewart and Ft Benning)

I wanted to thank you so much for this website. My boyfriend is serving with B/1-5 in 3rd Brigade Combat Team 3ID. This is our first deployment and every little bit of information is crucial and very much appreciated right now. As Joanne stated, we don’t have contact with them right now, or at least, not much. So again, thank you very much for this.

I tried to get logged on to support3rdid.com

You need a referral name to get on this site.

I also tried to log on to support3rdid.com. Had the same problem. How do you get a referral name?

Although the 3rd ID support is is a great site...it appears outdated or seems to have very slow activity. I am not sure this is in the current running for what we need in regards to support. I was also unable to register with vFRG as well. This is supposed to allow you access to particular unit information/updates/information etc. I happened upon it on yahoo. I will just rely on Chris for updates for now. smile

I got registered at the FRG site, but can’t get any information on a particular unit. It is really complicated to navigate. I finally gave up and referred here to Hammer Slogger. It’s the best resource I’ve found. Somebody needs to figure out how to make these other sites user friendly.

I don’t have any info reguarding the 3ID support site but I do have some helpful tips for the vFrg site.

When it comes to the units to sign up for . Click on 3rd Brigade 3ID (the plus sign in front of it)
Then all the units will be listed below. Then click on GO for the unit of choice.

Hope that helps some.

I am currently a member of the support3rdID.com site and have been since July of ‘05.  It is a very informative group of people from 3rdID.  When asked for a referral, what it is asking is where you found out about the site.  Unfortunatly, the site has had people trying to become members to either spam the list or to get contact information about the people on the list.  That is why they have to be careful.  If you are interested in getting to know the wonderful people of the 3rd ID, take the time to join and then don’t just be a lurker, join in the discussions.
